A perfect excuse, or pure love?

To men and women that simple question relies on the affection level of each person due to different love situations combined with different factors such as length of the relationship, compatibility, willingness to give in, and most important taking risks for the significant other.

​

These past couple days we have seen tons of articles, videos, blogs, and in-depth analyzation of what happened at the Oscars. In a globalized world is no longer possible to stay closed minded and it is almost impossible to not hear or read other people’s opinions.

​

There are five perspectives that flood my mind with thoughts about how Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock on live TV, I will start with the more direct perspectives that we usually thing right away after we see an incident like this.

How spineless you can be to make a joke about someone’s disease

​

To many people, the comedian Chris Rock was so wrong about making a distasteful joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. She has been so open about her struggles with Alopecia, and he decides to rub that on her face right in front of millions of viewers.

​

 Family comes first

​

Will Smith embodies the perfect traits of being a good husband. His wife was bullied, and he clearly saw that she was uncomfortable with the situation, he did the right thing by stepping to defend her at all costs.

 

Violence is never good

​

One thing is having an altercation with words, but one must avoid violence when the situation can be easily handled. Assaulting someone on live TV like Will Smith did to Chris is never a good thing, what kind of message are we trying to convey to the masses?, assault someone because you feel like it, you don’t face any repercussions and you get an award with a standing ovation.

Manipulation at its best

If you pay attention to the whole situation, Will Smith actually laughs about the joke that Chris Rock made about his wife Jada. Will only reacts when Jada rolls her eyes and gives him a clear indication that the joke did not sit well with her, immediately after you see Will walking directly towards Chris and assaults him.

 

One video shows Jada laughing after Will assaulted Chris, did Jada just manipulated Will to do something out of proportion in the name of love?. There is no secret that Will and Jada’s relationship is not conventional, Will claims that his wife did not cheat on him with one of his son’s friends rather he declared “We are in an open relationship”. Apparently, the monotony of being married and not feeling satisfied affected Jada over the years and that is why she was looking for that void that she was missing according to Jada and Will.

 

The interesting take on this will be if we witnessed a desperate husband trying to please a wife that constantly feels empty when it comes to her romantic relationship with him.

Time to shine, not really …

 

For years African American Actors and Producers have criticized the Oscars for being so white, meaning that the Oscars were not diverse enough arguing that Caucasians accounted for most people who produce, participate, and receive the honorary trophy.

 

In fact, in 2016 Jada Pinkett Smith called for a boycott of the Oscars for lack of diversity creating the popular hashtag “#OscarsSoWhite”. Ironically, Will Smith’s actions overshadowed the historical moment that occurred during this 94th Annual Academy Awards.

 

The Academy decided to employ the first all-Black production team in the history of the Oscars. It is very difficult to understand that the very same people that demanded inclusion, actually ruined the entire moment when that inclusion was granted, It is definitely a hard pill to swallow for the African American community.

 

As a society we are so different and each one of us has a different way of process situations, the unfortunate moment that occurred at the Oscars between Will Smith and Chris Rock shows the immense variety of the thought process we possess as humans.

 

We must understand that no human on earth is completely perfect, and we are subject to make decisions on a daily basis, those decisions can affect our lives positively or negatively. We must ask ourselves, what is the right thing to do every time we encounter situations like this, after all we are part of one big social ecosystem that interconnects each and every single one of us one way or another.
